Dutch professor: government stifles freedom of speech

On a symposium on free speech Dutch professor Jit Peters declared that the Dutch government has stifled free speech (NL) in The Netherlands by investigating Fitna. This is just one example of limiting free speech he says. Just the fact there is an investigation is already government intimidation (most people will now think twice in criticizing Islam publicly).

He also cites other examples, like the arrest of anti Wilders demonstrators for their signs. Although the judged ruled in favor of the demonstrators, they never the less were arrested and stopped from demonstrating. Extreme right demonstrators he says, have in practice no right on freedom of speech in The Netherlands. They are only allowed to demonstrate in obscure industrial area’s.
